Day 3: Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber
Day 3 began with breakfast and a short devotional by Dave. He read through Psalm 139 and we had a time of prayer. As a team, we shared what stood out to us from the day before and we were thankful for the gift of God's word and that we have it available in our own language. It was a reminder of how quickly we take for granted the very copies of God's Word and the accessibility of God's Word that we enjoy today. We praised the Lord for His sovereignty and how He knows the thoughts and intentions of our hearts!
After our team time, we got on the road and headed to our next destination. We traveled 2 hours to northern Bavaria where the town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber is located. This city was originally started in 1142 and had many ups and downs over the centuries, but today it's a very good example of a medieval city with a fully enclosed wall, cobblestone streets, many old and historic buildings, churches and beautiful history to go along with it. It was beautiful. We got to visit the Christmas Museum and the Medieval Crime Museum, both doing a good job of chronicling when, where, and how these traditions originated and evolved. Some unique punishments were 'shame masks' made of iron and placed over someone's head to wear around town. One had large ears and a long tongue which was meant for someone who was a gossip. Another was a heavy stone rosary, weighing 50 lbs., this would be given to someone who fell asleep during church or missed a Sunday (easy to know as everyone had assigned seats). After dinner, we hiked back to the walled city, as it is close enough to walk to, and enjoyed dessert and more sightseeing around the town. Overall, the team is doing well. They are flexible and have great attitudes as we travel from one place to another. However, please be praying for health. One of our team members fell ill and stayed back most of this afternoon and evening to rest. A couple of them have had headaches and overall haven't felt the greatest. Please pray that health will come quickly and that the rest of us will stay healthy.
Tomorrow we will make the 2-hour drive into the Black Forest to Bad Teinach-Zavelstein where we will officially check in to the BMW conference and begin serving. Touring around Germany has been such a gift, and now we have the privilege of loving, encouraging, and serving our missionaries for the rest of the week. I think we are all looking forward to planting ourselves in one location :) Please pray that as we meet the missionary families tomorrow and as we interact with their children we will have intentional conversations and make the most of our time with them.
Our internet hasn't been the greatest today, so there won't be that many pics to see...we will try and upload them when we have a better connection. ** Got more pics uploaded! :)
Our home for the night.
